This week’s completely ridiculous matchup: ABBA versus Ace of Base.
Yes, this week’s completely ridiculous matchup pits 70’s pop superstars ABBA against 90’s up and comers Ace of Base. Yes, both are Swedish pop bands. Yes, both began with two blond and two brunette members. And yes, both have 2 male and 2 female members, (though Ace of Base has 2 new female members taking over from the original female members). Sure, ABBA is the more well known of the two bands, by far. Sure ABBA’s members are probably zillionaires now with all the merchandising, licensing, and even a broadway play (Mamma Mia!) based on their music. And yes, ABBA stopped making new music many years ago, around 1982. On the flip side, Ace of Base hit it big with their 1993 debut album Happy Nation/The Sign and it still remains one of the top selling debut albums of all time.
So this matchup pits mid to late 1970’s ABBA, at the peak of their success (while still recording) against mid 1990’s Ace of Base. So who would win in a fight?
I would say Ace of Base. Maybe its their music. They just seem tougher than Benny and the gang. I asked my wife who would win in a fight between ABBA and Ace of Base. She too picked Ace of Base. “Why do you say that?” I asked. My wife responded that ABBA reminds her of Jim Henson and the Muppets.
Yes, that is completely ridiculous. And funny.
